Once theatres were able to reopen post-lockdown, a number of local theatre groups looked to rekindle the local arts scene.
Whistling Crew Productions and WordForWord Theatre were two such companies, and they kickstarted the theatre scene in Carlisle with a modern take on Twelfth Night. I was involved in creating a number of projects for the production, starting with the script and handbook presented to the actors and crew involved.
The play featured strong LGBT+ themes as well as reflecting the attitude and atmospheres of the BLM and #MeToo movements and this was reflected in the colourful poster and logo designs I created for the production, purposefully flouting traditional rules of colour and design layout to evoke feelings of rebelliousness, and subtly capitalising the letters L, G, B, T, I and + in the production’s logo.

The artwork in the arch windows was created by local artist Elisha Wharton.
